Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and she also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in American history. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco's district attorney. Harris was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator who worked for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling cannabis. The path towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. She earned national attention for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of sexual assault.
